Canada WNT defender joins FC Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS, IN, March 11, 2009 — Canada WNT defender Robyn Gayle has joined the FC Indiana squad the club announced today.
Gayle won her first cap with Canada’s senior team in June 2006, at the age of 20. She won a silver medal with Canada at the 2003 Pan American Games and represented Canada at the FIFA Women’s World Cup China 2007. She also played with the University of North Carolina 2004-07.
The 5’7″ speedster won a silver medal with Canada at the FIFA U-19 Women’s World Championship Canada 2002… won a silver medal with Canada at the XIV Pan American Games Santo Domingo 2003 (lost 1:2 a.e.t. to Brasil in the final)… reached the quaterfinal with Canada at the FIFA U-19 Women’s World Cup Thailand 2004…she was 20 years old when she won her first cap with Canada’s senior team on 25 June 2006 in Toronto (a 2:1 win over Italia)… finished second with Canada at the 2006 Peace Queen Cup after a 0:1 loss to the United States in the final (she did not feature in the final)… finished second with Canada at the 2006 CONCACAF Gold Cup after a 1:2 loss to the United States in the final… represented Canada at the FIFA Women’s World Cup China 2007… finished second with Canada at the 2008 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualification Tournament… reached the quarter-final with Canada at the 2008 Women’s Olympic Soccer Tournament.
“Robyn is training very hard with the squad and needs to improve her fitness right now but I expect her to compete for a starting spot,” said FC Indiana coach Shek Borkowski.
