FC Indiana to take on WPS foe Sky Blue FC

Posted by iamhannah on April 20, 2009

INDIANAPOLIS, IN, April 20, 2009 —  FC Indiana coach Shek Borkowski likened Tuesday’s, kick-off at 7 p.m. at Kuntz Stadium, clash against Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) Sky Blue FC here to the biblical combat between David and Goliath.
FC Indiana come into the match with 5 pre-season losses and are considered to be overwhelming underdogs.
“While I have utmost confidence in my squad I realize we are facing a huge task against a club with much larger financial and human resources than us,” said Borkowski.
But FC Indiana are not as helpless as Borkowski would like you to believe.
In four seasons FC Indiana won 2 Women’s Premier League (WPSL) titles, 2 Open Cup titles, and has overall record of 76-8-4. The team is undefeated at home, and has never lost by more than 1 goal margin. FC Indiana has a 100% record against international opponents including wins over the full women’s national teams of New Zealand, Trinidad & Tobago, the 2007 World Cup quarterfinalists, Australia, as well as Mexico and Canada. FC Indiana has outscored opponents 347-36 in four years.

Sky Blue FC arrive in Indianapolis after tying the Chicago Red Stars 0-0 at Toyota Park on Sunday night.
Head Coach and General Manager Ian Sawyers was satisfied with his team’s performance, “Coming away with the point on the road is not the perfect outcome. We played much better in the second half and created more chances.”
Sawyers’ squad includes three 2008 Olympic gold medal winners currently on the U.S. national team roster – captain Christie Rampone, Heather O’Reilly and Natasha Kai.
Australia WNT stars Collette McCallum and Sarah Walsh provide additional international experience to Sky Blue FC squad.
